BeYond…is an invitation to recognize the present as an opportunity. There is so much in this time that we can and should grow beyond… BeYond everything that is no longer useful. The here and now brings BeYond who we think we are or should be. Dance and performance are offered here as a practice of going beyond what is taken for granted.

In performances, I make myself available to the “what is” in order to illuminate a subjective, unique and immediate version of the moment in a tiny fragment. This is both a listening and an action. The effect of one’s own movements and those of others is an infinitely differentiated exploration. Objects, nature and place, text and music challenge the psyche and physique and tickle themes such as “merging” or rather “contrasting”.

Honesty and sensitivity allow the mind to travel wildly, ad absurdum, or into the fullness of emptiness. As a performer, I set aside the choreographed body: I don’t want to move in fixed coordinates of time and space, I want to create time and space. I move as I see, what I see is secondary. The zooming out of a moment, the recognition of a moment, the pulling out, already over. All viewers are participants.

I do not give a message as such. Meaning is found, or not, in seeing. My performances live from both presence and absence. For me, the phenomenon of absence enables the presence of the unsuspected.

Dance is the explicit and implicit movement vocabulary of the universe and as such is worthy of incessant exploration and narration.

As dancers, we explore how what exists in relation to each other is expressed in time and space: always new, never fixed, never finite. Formless and full of forms.

Dance is always unavoidably topical. Physicality is intimate. I experience the confrontation with the body and movement as a revolt and at the same time as a deep manifestation of (un)injuries and the healing power of ourselves and the earth. Dance liberates.

In dance, the cellular micro-intelligence in the body is more decisive for me than the concepts that live in the head, which are nevertheless important. In fractal dancing, the smallest thing in the body moves the whole body. The dialog with movements in nature and with movements of social and worldly realities already begins on the inside of the skin.

Release and Somatic Body Anatomy inform my dance, which I am happy to share with you: It moves in lemniscates and spirals, finds stillness in the vortex and opens a space.

Body journeys and touch bring the body-mind continuum to reorganization, healing and new expression.

Somatics trains and honors listening, inwardly and outwardly. Movement can be initiated in so many places. Body anatomy is explored and embodied. The dance of nerves is different from the dance of muscles or glands or the dance of cells.

Body-Mind Centering® is an approach developed by Bonnie Bainbridge-Cohen. In addition to anatomy, in BMC® we are interested in how movement and touch create and develop the human being, especially in the first years of life and even before.

Somatic Movement lays a foundation for Ecosomatics: each individual is unique and at the same time inextricably linked to its matrix, the web of life. Its very own self-interest thus includes other living beings and the living body of the earth.

Gravitation.

I imagine gravity as a huge medium, a gel-like field in which I float. Gravity makes my cat purr in my arms. Gravity is added as an attraction. Gravity as the promise of the bond that my soul has entered into with the earth.

I feel that my body is in my soul and that my body is like a star in the universe that draws my soul into the earth. I am still wide and open and immeasurable around this body, and when I look outside, I see my soul in the light and in the trees and in the small space between the two windows.

I don’t have to close my eyes to feel myself as something inside.

Gravitation. The power of attraction? But what attracts whom?

I am dying. I am dying

I am dying from the inside out.

At some point, the attraction wears off. The body shrinks. The soul expands the skin that stretches around the ever-shrinking body. It drapes itself in ripples and wrinkles, in folds and furrows. Waves everywhere and folds falling further and further.

Curious, I begin to drill my fingers into the innermost folds. In the deepest depths I surprisingly encounter dark matter, where everything lived and not yet lived is held by a secret.

After my mother died, her skin became smooth again, as if ironed, her body looked so young. When ironing, the folds are stretched into the width of the material. Loose, go.

Fold me, unfold me. Slowly this body disappears. I stand by the sea, my dance is immersion in the waves.

Dance finds forms and dissolves them again. Swirls and waves lead into pulsation, into the dynamics of the spiral and into the plumb line of stillness.
What are the connections between a labyrinth and these original, inspired movements? We dance it:

The new dance labyrinth goes beyond the two-dimensional labyrinth designed on the floor and follows the multidimensionality in body, mind, time and space.

Dans van het autonome zenuwstelsel
De parasympathicus en de sympathicus dansen samen, golvend, hand in hand. Toch schiet een van beiden wel eens uit de bocht. This is a good way to find balance and regulation again. Het gaat in deze dagen niet om kennis van, maar om belichaming van. There is an intelligent mind in us. Een springveer in onze borstkas, zegt Rumi. Beweging dus, hands-on, oefeningen op de grond, maar ook heel graag choreografisch werk. De lemniscaat zullen we tegenkomen, de natuur, als het weer het toelaat. Want yes, eigenlijk is er geen betere plek als de zee met haar ebbe en vloed, als we de golven van het autonome zenuwstelsel in onze dans terug willen vinden.

The in-service training course “Ecosomatics – sentient Being in sentient Worlds” introduces a new somatic and artistic practice that aims to deepen our relationship to all living things and strengthen our own actions in the world.

The training is spread over 5 modules in the period 2025 – 2027. The first 4 modules must be taken individually.

The organization is in the hands of the Akademie am Meer on Sylt. Wilma Vesseur is the director. Collaborators are: Lore Machler (activist, young mother, BMC woman and ecologist) and Christoph Schumacher (musician and sound researcher)

BeYond- Im Tanz der Gegenwart, is an advanced training program with Wilma in Trogen 2024 – 2026 for graduates of “Tanz der Gegenwart” and for movers and dancers with similar experiences. The training course can be booked as a whole or per module

Moving BeYond is an artistic, exploratory and also spiritual examination of being in the body / being in the world. We want to move in such a way that the dance regulates us. The autonomic nervous system supports the voluntary nervous system. Sensing, feeling and humor (juice) bring us into flow. Not knowledge is validated and strengthened, embodiment of all body systems is practiced.
